Draft for review. Replace bracketed items and have a lawyer review before publishing.

This policy explains what Sidestage ("we", "us") collects when you use the Sidestage website and mobile app (the "Service"), how we use it, and the choices you have. It is written in plain language on purpose.

What we collect

Things you give us

  • Account details: email address, name or stage name, password (stored hashed), and your city.
  • Profile content: photos, bio, instruments, genres, availability, intent, audio and video files you upload, and links you add.
  • Messages you send to other users through the Service.
  • Early access and contact forms: email, city, role and anything you write to us.

Things collected automatically

  • Approximate location, with your permission, so we can show people and services near you. We store a coarse location and show other users only an approximate distance and the area you choose to display.
  • Device and usage data such as device type, operating system, app version, crash reports, and which features you use.
  • Cookies on the website, limited to what the site needs to function and basic, privacy-respecting analytics. [Name your analytics provider, if any.]

How we use it

  • To run the Service: show you cards, make matches, deliver messages and play media.
  • To keep the Service safe: detect spam, abuse and content that violates our terms, including checking uploaded audio against known commercial recordings.
  • To tell you about your account and, if you opted in, when Sidestage launches in your city.
  • To understand how the Service is used so we can improve it.

What other users see

Your profile content, your intent, your approximate distance and the area you choose to show are visible to other users of the Service. Your email address, precise location and account details are never shown.

Who we share it with

We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with service providers who help us run Sidestage (for example, cloud hosting and media streaming providers, email delivery, crash reporting and content-moderation tools), who may use it only on our behalf; with law enforcement when required by law; and in connection with a merger or acquisition, in which case this policy continues to apply. [List key providers.]

Your choices

  • Edit or remove any profile content at any time from the app.
  • Turn location permission off in your device settings; the Service will ask for a city instead.
  • Unsubscribe from marketing email with the link in any message.
  • Delete your account from the app's settings. Uploaded media and profile data are deleted from our systems within [30] days, except where we must keep records to comply with law or resolve disputes.
  • Request a copy of your data or ask questions by emailing hello@sidestagemusic.com.

Age

Sidestage is for people aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18; if you believe we have, contact us and we will delete it.

Security and retention

Data is encrypted in transit, media is stored with reputable cloud providers, and access inside the company is limited to people who need it. We keep your data while your account is active and for a short period afterwards as described above.

Changes

If we change this policy in a meaningful way we will notify you in the app or by email before the change takes effect.
